What's Happenin at Collision

Below is a brief summary of what we have been talking about recently.  Most of the time we teach through a series for several weeks at a time that way students that miss can get caught back up quickly, and so we can dissect a topic more fully than just a one night deal. Use the overview and questions for both you and your teen to answer and have a dialog that continues outside the church walls and into your homes.  Use this opportunity to see what God is teaching your student and also allow your student to see what God is teaching/taught you.

This Week at Collision

Series Overview

With this series we are putting the students in the driver's seat and allowing them to directly choose the next week's topic.  Students can vote for their preferred topic by using our "Full Circle App" or by going to the webpage linked to the QR code below.  Voting goes until Mondays at noon, then that next Wednesday the wining topic will be the nights lesson and discussion.  The topics are all the hard topics facing our culture today; from gay marriage, divorce, and abortion to being single, end times and love.

Week 4 (2015-01-28)

Tonight is one of our more touchy subjects: Abortion.  PARENTS, TONIGHT IS A NIGHT YOU WILL WANT TO HAVE A FOLLOW UP CONVERSATION.  Don't pass this up.  We have set the conversation up for you already, take advantage of the opportunity.  Our culture screams so much about this topic but yet our churches and home-lives are virtually silent about this.  Many of these teens only know "it's wrong"....but why?  If we never answer that single question, these teens will grow up to make choices with everlasting consequences not ever knowing the whole truth.  Tonight we discussed that based on the inconsistencies of law and culture, the defiance of scientific knowledge and the violation of God's purpose: abortion MUST be eliminated wherever possible in our world.

Please note, we did discuss some of the mechanics of development tonight (what is developed at what stage in a pregnancy after conception and so forth) but did NOT discuss any abortion techniques or procedures.  I would strongly encourage you to sit down with your teen (depending on their maturity level and what life stage they are in) and talk through the various procedures.  Not to inform for later consideration, but to illustrate the absolute heinous tragedy that over 57 (just in the US) million babies have faced in our history.  Knowing these facts are sobering and convicting.  But we simply could not justify discussing this in front of such a wide variety of maturity levels tonight.

I know this topic is tough for some.  We did emphasize the forgiveness that we all find at the cross, even those who have had an abortion.  We understand these topics are tough, but the church, which is the physical representation to the world of God's truth, MUST talk about these issues in a loving yet authoritative way.

Intentional Interaction

Just talk....

Here are some starters:
So I hear you guys talked about abortion tonight....what did you think?
Did you have any questions?
What can the church do to help convey HOPE?

Week 3 (2015-01-21)

Tonight, they really wanted to challenge me...END TIMES.  How in the world do you cram all of the end times knowledge into 30 minutes?  Well, we decided to cover the basics about points of view and different terminology, but we really wanted to students to walk away with one HUGE concept....BE READY.  Truth is, yes we've been living during the end times ever since Christ left this earth, but the reality is this generation, more than any other before, is seeing some major prophecies come to fulfillment.  Yes, we know every generation before has felt this way, but it just seems that we are experiencing even more "birthing pains" (as Jesus put it) than ever before.  People, get ready, Jesus is coming!

Intentional Interaction

Tonight, may be a good time to ask a hard question:
What is keeping me from being ready?
Does being ready mean knowing stuff? Or doing stuff? Or a condition of the heart?
In what ways can you begin to live more of the world and less in the world?

Week 2 (2015-01-14)

Tonight, everyone picked a good one...Biblical Contradiction.  As much as the religious folk would love to just answer with "God said so I believe it" or "there aint none", the rest of the world does not buy that logic for a minute.  Tonight, the goal was to offer a tip of the hat, or a nod of the head to the idea of contradiction, but ultimately refute the claim that the Bible is inaccurate or in error. The truth about so many of the "contradictions" is that they are related to sloppy research, loose context or just plain poor interpretation.  Regardless, we'll take a look at all of it to gleam some truth out of it all and, hopefully, better equip your teen to encounter those in the world that hide behind this flawed way of thinking.

Intentional Interaction

Tonight, ask your teen if they have ever wondered about the Bible's accuracy?
Do they know friends that feel this way?
What did they learn tonight that may change they way they feel about their faith?
What did/will they vote for us to cover for next week?

Tonight will be our first Collision of 2015 so it will be a general overview of where we are going and how the polling will work.

Intentional Interaction

Tonight just may be a good night to talk to your teen about what topic they will be voting on for next week.
