Ministry leaders everywhere are talking about the upcoming
release of the upcoming thriller The
Remaining (check out the trailer). A group of friends gather
at a wedding, but the celebration is shattered by terrifying apocalyptic
events, throwing survivors into immediate peril and forcing them to examine
life, love and faith as they must choose between redemption and survival. This movie is one that would be a great way
to talk about the end times with your older-mature teen. It is strongly recommended that you (as a
parent) watch the flick first before encouraging your teen to see it. Or at the very least check out the PluggedInReview (to be released 9-5-14) so that you are aware of what they will be watching (here's the IMDB link to also).
Either way, after they watch it, consider taking a look at the discussion guide at the movie site so that you can have a meaningful dialogue
with your teen about faith, salvation and the end times. It is really well put together and I think it is a valuable resource. If your teen is in to horror/thriller flicks,
there won’t be a cooler segue into a talk about faith their salvation and the salvation of their friends than this
parents….so take advantage of it.
If I can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to
contact me. Please note that I am not
endorsing this movie as a "Biblical" movie, nor am I encouraging you to blindly send your teen to this movie, please investigate for
yourself if it’s something you can get behind. I’m simply encouraging you to
use a movie they may really enjoy to transition into a dialogue between your
teen and yourself. Hey, maybe you can
make it a condition of them seeing it.
